Pricing also is expected to remain stable this year, unless the price of copper—the biggest materials contributor to the cost of inductors—starts to increase.

January DRAM, NAND Flash Sales Point to Promising Year

Strengthen price boost January YoY memory sales.

Industry consolidation to just three big DRAM suppliers and reduction in capital expenditures among these suppliers helped propel DRAM prices up 13% year over year in January 2013.

Significant reductions in capital equipment spending among DRAM manufacturers are likely to drive prices further upward.

Equipment budgets are also being trimmed for NAND flash, along with ongoing unit demand, has put upward pressure on price as well. NAND flash price increased 37% year over year in January

January IC sales numbers were encouraging and represented a good start to the year. Further growth in the 2013 IC market is highly dependent on electronic systems growth, which in turn is highly dependent on a healthy global economy. Global GDP growth forecast remains at 3.2% for 2013.
